Sony PS - No more??

A ruling today by a US Federal court has ordered Sony to quit selling the Playstation, and also pay a US company US$91 million (yes million) for patent infringment.

Upon presenting the ruling, however, the judge held it pending appeal. Therefore Sony doesn't have to stop selling the popular consoles just yet. But there could be a time in the not too distant future when there will no longer be a PS2 on the store shelves.

We'll keep you updated.

A "new" handheld finally leaves vaporware

We've been hearing about the Gizmondo handheld for quite some time.

It's finally been released (in the UK at least.

This should be a good handheld, if it does everything the website says it does. Guess we'll have to wait for it to cross the pond to see.

Xbox price cut

Effective immediately, the Xbox is now under US$180. This, despite the fact that M$ claims that the console is too hot to keep on store shelves.

This is in response to a recent cut by Sony which wants to clear out its current stock of PS2 ahead of the June launch of the newly redesigned PS2.

The June release of the PS2 will have a network adapter and will sell for around 200 bux.

It will allow you to download video and re-encode it with the PSP codecs and upload to your docked PSP. The app is called PSP Video 9 and is freeware and combined with Videora 1.0 (a bittorrent client) which sells for $23 gives you this ability.

Sony PSP Grey market?

Reuters has an interesting story on how well sony PSP's are selling in the UK - despite the fact they aren't due to be released there for a few more months.

"We sell plenty of these -- usually 10 or 20 a weekend," said a salesman at MBA Technologies, a shop in London's consumer electronics retail district.

And they are selling for a whopping US$577!

Good thing we don't have to wait much longer :)
