Developers slam PS3 while Sony says "it's not too much"

I dunno.

I think Sony is going ot have a hard time pushing the PS3. Not only have we already heard that it may not be fully functional out of the gate but now certian key developers are also saying that the PS3 isn't designed to be a game console.

We heard about this a while back - how the cell processor is geared more towards audio and video and less at gaming. And at the time we thought that could just be some negative press being generated by M$, but now to have a developer criticize the console, well that's a whole other field.

Yet through all this negative publicity Sony still insists the console is a value.

They go on about things like "consider what the PS3 will be" and not what it is now.

What it will be?? What is that supposed to mean? Is it going to transform itself one night?

Sony CEO Howard Stringer is even on the record as saying "The price of the PS3 is high, but you're paying for potential." What potential? I mean if you put it in those terms, all the consoles with their web based access have potential as well.

But then he goes on to say "obviously, it's a higher-risk strategy--as all new inventions are--but if the PS3 lives up to its total potential, then I don't think anyone will be worried about Nintendo or Xbox's cheaper price."

Wait a sec - the PS3 is an invention? Since when to sequels become inventions? I guess next years Spiderman movie is also an invention and not another moneymaking grab by the studio producing the flick.

No the PS3 is no more an invention than the 360. Both are sequels to other highly successful consoles. And when you have something successful you do all you can to continue its success by releasing improved versions of the originals. The same goes for games which is why we have so many game titles with roman numerals in them.

But that's beside the point. I think Sony has gotten their heads so far up their collective a$$es that they don't seem to notice that their competitors are doing it for cheaper and better.

If Sony wants to make a gaming console that also plays movies thats fine but don't make a glorified DVD player that plays games - it just won't work.
