DS Sales Sky High!
For those doubters who think the DS handheld wouldn't amount to much, we've got news for you! Nintendo announced yesterday that Japanese sales of the DS handheld system have passed thef 10 million mark only after 20 months in the market. The company claimed it being a new record for game console sales.
The DS was launched in December 2004 and brought the touch screen technology to the front of the gaming world. A huge portion of sales can be attributed to the new DS Lite which as we reported had long pre release lines that wrapped around the building! As for worldwide sales, the DS has surpassed 20 million and the DS Lite has sold about 600,000 units in only 19 days after its release in the US.
And thanks to the DS sales, Nintendo was able to post a first-quarter profit of $133.6 million! But now you're thinking the sales figures will start to slow down right? Wrong! Sales are still going strong my friend. So strong that Nintendo has changed its outlook for the year and increases their expected sales to 17 million from the projected 16 million before. Way to go Nintendo! I knew I should have bought some stock in them. Damn!
