360 Gets into HD

A couple of days ago Microsoft announced that a 360 software update would enable 1080p resolution on the console, putting it on par with the PS3.

At least that's what M$ says. The software update will be for Xbox 360 consoles worldwide in fall, and will allow for 1080p game and video output. It's not clear which future games will support the highest resolution.

This update, along with the rumored HD-DVD will provide a competitor to the PS3 which, up until now, was the only console to offer HD by means of the controversial Blu-Ray system.

Well today Sony responded via Kotaku and as you'd expect they are downplaying the upgrade, referring to it as "just a compatibility feature -- upscaling lower-resolution content does not make it Full HD (1080p), something that PS3 can do out of the box.."

You know, for once I think Sony is right.

Hey man wait. I saw A Microsoft clarification that it only Upscaled regular DVD's and HD-DVD's not at 1080p. But I will allow games to be 1080p native. The extra feature is upscaling regular DVD's. That is something PS3 can't do. So Ken is right but purposely misleading. He is talking about REGULAR DVDs while hoping that you think that applies to everything.

Thanks for the update indy!

That is interesting news and of course you'd expect the competition to downplay the updates. Great catch though!
