Hands-on with the PS3 plus why Monster is bad for the PS3

Let's start today by pointing you to a review of the PS3 as it appears on Next-Gen. While Next-Gen didn't do the review they've got a nice summary of it.

While the PS3 doesn't seem to impress coming out of the box, by the sounds of this first part of the review, they consider the $500+ price tag to be a hiccup in the decision making process.

In other words, game play may make up for the high price of the PS3. But I guess we'll have to let the public at large decide on that one.

So why is Monster bad?

Because in addition to shelling out $500 to $600 for your PS3 plus even more for games, you will need to shell out an additional $30 to $100 for cables to connect your PS3 to your entertainment system. That is if you use Monster Cables.

That is because according to their products pages a good quality cable for the PS3 will be costly.

The HDMI cable alone is $100 while others, like the fibre optic digital audio cable will run you an additional $30. Now if you are a true A/V freak, then these are definitely worth it, however if you are the average joe, maybe Best Buy will have something cheaper.
