The Tale of the Elusive Wii

I see it's been a while since the last post so I thought it was time.

But instead of reporting on the news (as it's been pretty quiet lately since the Wii and PS3 came out) I thought I'd update you on my hunt for the Wii.

I tell you, this thing is more elusive than the bigfoot. The only one I've seen is on display in a locked case in Walmart. I'm not sure I'll ever get my hand on one.

At first I thought I had one locked up - a friend was going to talk to a store manager buddy of his and get one set aside for me when then came in but that lead has now dried up. Looks like I'm now going to have to be like everyone else - hoping to hit the store at the right time. But I think I know what to do now, and I'll share my secret with you...

We were out on the 27th or 28th just shopping around. We got a poker table for Christmas but no cards or chips so we decided to go looking for a nice set of chips and cards.

We hunted around and while we were looking I stopped by the electronics departments of various stores to see if they had more Wii's or when they'd be expecting them.

Our first stop was Walmart - home of the infamous display behind locked glass. I asked the guy at the counter.

"Oh Yeah," he says, "we got more in yesterday."

"Great, can I get one?" I asked.

"Sorry - all sold out. The courier only gave is 12." He replied.

Then I asked him if ne knew when there would be more to which he replied he didn't think we'd see any more for at least a few weeks.

So then we hit the local Toys R Us, looking for poker chips and cards, which we did find there, but not the right ones.

On the way out I stopped into the electronics department to find out about the Wii.

Sure enough they too got some dropped off by courier yesterday, but only 6. However they just sold their last one just an hour or so before we stopped in.

I couldn't believe it - we were a mere hour short of owning a Wii! Guess I shouldn't have had that last cup of coffee.

But the clerk at the counter told me more - she heard that a local electronics store also got 40 delivered by courier but they were gone in 10 minutes.

However it was her mention of courier that got me to thinking. If they are being delivered by courier in dribs and drabs then I gotta find out when the couriers stop.

And since the Toys R Us seems to keep them in longer than the rest, I've got to find out when the courier hits this store and stake it out.

So that's my tip to you - find out if the shipments are couriered to your local stores and then stake them out around the time of the next courier shipment.

I know I'm going to be doing that soon. I'll be hitting the store shortly to find out when the courier drops off at the store, and when they expect the next shipments.

Sure it may take some time, but if I play my cards right I could be one of the next ones with a Wii in my hands.
