Wii Sales Fall Short, But Not As Short as PS3

So you may have heard already but Nintendo sold just shy of the 4 million consoles they planned on having out by the end of 2006. But they were close:

  • 1.25 million were sold in North America
  • 1.14 in Japan and
  • 800,000 in Europe

For a grand total of 3.19 million units.

Recent reports also suggest that the Wii has sold just over 4 million units this past week or so.

Sony, on the other hand, is experiencing problems.

We first told you how PS3's were showing back up in stores because people weren't able to make huge bucks on them by selling them on eBay, so were therefore returning therm.

Now we are getting even more reports that some scalpers are even willing to take a loss on the consoles just to get some money out of them.

I guess it'd be the same thing as showing up 15 minutes after the start of a big concert and having the scalper practically give you the tickets rather than throw them out, just to recoup some money.

This despite the fact that Sony claims sales are on track and doing OK.

So, who are you going to believe? Sony or Craigslist?
