PS3 update now what? How about DIY 6axis Wireless Charger
Sony has begun rolling out the latest PS3 update. Gizmodo even has some screenshots already. So what's all the hype with this new update anyways?
Well, the 1.8 firmwares biggest improvement seems to be upscaling to 1080i. I know you are saying "but that's native to the PS3" and you'd be right, except this update upscales not only PS2 games, but also PS1 and DVD movies.
It allows you to stream media over the Internet to your PSP. It can scan your home network for songs, movies and pictures, link to them and stream them. But this streaming ability isn't limited to just PS3s and PSPs. Soon a host of other products from companies which are part of the DLNA3 (Digital Living Network Alliance) will also be able to accept (and presumably create) streams.
I guess the idea is that if you have, say, a cell phone that's made by a company that's part of this alliance, that it too will be able to recieve streams from your PS3. Or if you have a PVR, it will be able to stream its recordings to the PS3, PSP or cell phone.
Best part is, it's all supposed to be seamless - which means they are aware of each other without much input required.
Now for the DIY tip of the day.
Instructables has a step-by-step plan for how you can build a Wii-like charging stand for those wireless sixaxis controllors you have. It looks pretty straightforward and actually looks kinda nice when complete. almost like an official Sony accessory.
So there you go, the highlights of the PS3 news for this week
