In Game Ads to Grow

Well it appears that in game ads are so hot that even Google is getting in.

Yup, you read right. Google, which is famous for placing ads on their own website and the sites of thousands others including this site, is now working out deals whereby game manufacturers place Google ads in games and earn a cut of the revenue.

Google says they will start with online games first, but also assured us that they would soon follow with PC and console games.

But why Google and why now?

Well, it turns out that gaming ads are very profitable according to a recent study.

The new study (from in-game ad firm Double Fusion and research company Interpret) says that in-game ads do in fact have influence over gamers’ buying decisions.

Now it does go on to say that the type of ad impacts its overall performance, however they find that most ads do influence gamers.

And why not? Even if the ads are in the gamer's peripheral vision, they still get noticed.

Plus game ads are different than other ads. They are generally geared towards the gamer, as opposed to TV ads which reach a broader audience.

Picture this, you are playing your favorite first person shooter game, and enter a grocery store looking for more bad guys to riddle with bullets. but instead of seeing generic aisles of products you actually see Cheerios and Tide and Skittles on the shelves. Each of these 3 products could be an ad strategically placed by the game manufacturer and ad supplier.

So the next time you've got a craving after playing a few hours of your favorite game, it might be the ads you didn't see (but were there) talking.
