There's a famous line in a few Arnold movies - "I'll be back."
I don't know why I'm so facinated with this company. Maybe because they had such a great idea which they blew off because of their greed.
They were years ahead of the competition and, in fact, the Gizmondo is still ahead of the competition even having been dead these past couple years.
I know this because I had the fortune to talk to someone within the company to which they had subcontracted the development of the main hardware to. And when he told me what the capabilties of the handheld were it blew me away.
So it is sad to see it not materialize, however maybe its for the best. I mean, what if they had sold a bunch of these handhelds, and had thousands (or millions?) of subscribers shelling out monthly fees - what of their loss?
But, if you think you can revive the brand, or just some extra cash lying around, why not check out the auction going on for their display booth.
Looks like a Gizmondo clone to me! Check out the MP4 Player 'HR-28' It provides the following services: movie, music, game, image viewer, photo, video file. This can be connected into TV to play all kinds of contents such as videos file, and more. Also supports MP3, WMA, FLAC music files and MPEG4 AVI video files. Looks to be about 125.00 US Dollars if you import it from China. Not bad at all!

Ok well maybe not the whole story, but yet more information on just how this startup went from on top of the world to down and out.
We've been focusing a lot on Stefan Eriksson as he was one of the major players in Gizmondo. But he's not the only person responsible for the downfall of the company.
The UK website Timesonline.com has in interesting piece on another player in this saga/conspiracy.
Let me introduce you to Carl Freer. The man behind Gizmondo. The article explains how his company, worth over a billon dollars on the stock exchange, burned through over $300 million (yes million) dollars in just 18 months.
Imagine that - blowing that kind of cash in that short a period? Of course that is raising even more questions.
So there you have it, yet another chapter in the ongoing saga that is Gizmondo.

I don't know, this story just gets wierder and wierder.
Some people are asking some interesting questions like, if you're driving a Ferarri and wrap it around a telephone pole, how do you walk away with only a cut lip?
And who were the two guys that showed up shortly after the crash claiming to be from Homeland Security?
Wait, it gets better.
Apparently they work for a bus company and one of them is now charged because he posed as a policeman to obtain a gun. Get more details from CNN.

Well you gotta hand it to this guy. I think Gizmondo is becoming more well known to the population at large because of his misfortunes. Too bad it happened after the company folded.
Anyways, Stefan Eriksson, who we've been keeping tabs on since he was arrested for and plead not guilty to numerous charges, has just been granted bail.
That's right, even though he is considered a flight risk he will be out on bail. Mind you it's $3 milllion in bail, I don't think he's going to run away from that, but you never know.
For the latest details check ouit the recent CNN News aticle.

It started with Stefan toasted his rare Ferrari. It got worse when his wife was busted for driving without a license. But then all his cars got seized AND he was charged with numerous offenses.
Now, according to The SFGate.com Stefan has plead not guilty through his attorneys and was ordered held on $5.5 million bail.
Deputy District Attorney Tamara Hall requested that bail be set at $5.5 million to cover the $3.8 million cost of the cars and because authorities consider Eriksson a flight risk after finding he had booked an April 10 flight to the United Kingdom.
Los Angeles Superior Court Judge Mary Strobel set a bail review hearing for April 24.
If convicted on all counts, Eriksson could be sentenced to as many as 14 years in state prison.

Poor Stefan.
First, he pulverizes his priceless Ferarri.
Then his wife gets busted driving another expensive car without a license.
Now it appears that Mr. Eriksson has been arrested for grand theft!
That's right, apparently all his cars, including the Enzo and the Mercedes were actually owned by unnamed British financial institutions. It sounds like they didn't know that he had brought them to the US when he moved.
Just gotta wonder how much more this guy can take before he decides to eat a bullet?

To me, owning a super sleek super fast car indicates that the owner must be trying to compensate for something.
So when you first manage to annihilate a priceless Ferarri your ego has to take a hit.
So it's really gotta hurt when the government takes away another of your babies. But that's what happened recently to Stefan Eriksson, former Gizmondo executive.
You see, 90210 PD impounded a very expensive Mercedes SLR McLaren owned by Eriksson because, get this, it wasn’t registered in the U.S. AND Eriksson's wife was caught driving it without a license.
Life sucks, eh Stefan?

Well, if you're bigwig Stefan Ericksson from Gizmondo and you own a rare Ferarri that you can't control you get this:

What's more amazing is that he walked away with a cut lip. Guess he still has to put up with bankruptcy after all.
