Hack your DS Into a Portable Drawing Tablet

Are you getting tired of gaming on the DS?

Ok so maybe you aren't.  But that doesn't mean you couldn't try this hack to turn your DS into something other than a handheld game console.

It actually looks pretty cool.  All you need is a flash card, a flash card reader attached to your computer and a free program.

Once you've followed the instructions in Wired's wiki you too can create such masterpieces as this:

Rembrandt on DS

DS continues the march

Will the DS ever be stopped? Hopefully not it continues to crush the competition in the video game world. The new US NPD sales numbers are out, and the system sales are striking: the DS moved 403,435 units, while the PSP was only able to get 153,353 units off the shelves and into the hands of gamers. The PS2 again outsold the 360, with 306,517 PS2 units moved to Microsoft's 259,458. I have an idea that the WII will soon be spanking all of them!

Delta meets DS

As of today, Nintendo DS owners can download game demos at kiosks in the Atland International Airport! There will be six kiosks located at the A, B and T concourses. You'll be able to download some games to help you kill time between waiting for flights. What a great idea to bring this out right in time for the holidays!

So remember! If you've got a DS and you're stuck at the airport in Atlanta, you know what to do. Then come tell us about it.

Check out the article below:

Game On! Delta Air Lines Partners With Nintendo to Provide Travelers Access to Free Video Game Demos

ATLANTA, Nov. 20, 2006 (PRIMEZONE) -- Just in time to entertain holiday travelers, Delta Air Lines is partnering with Nintendo to provide customers with access to free video game demos for the Nintendo DS portable gaming system. Today, on-the-go Nintendo lovers can begin downloading the interactive demos -- including Brain Age, Elite Beat Agents, Clubhouse Games -- in Delta terminals at Hartsfield-Jackson Atlanta International Airport.

Through this new service, travelers can easily and wirelessly download Nintendo video game demos for free by bringing their Nintendo DS video game systems with them when they travel to or through Atlanta, standing within a few feet of the DS Download Station and following the simple download instructions. There are six units in the Atlanta airport on Concourses T, A and B. Delta also plans to provide this exciting enhancement in other airports in the coming months.

``Delta is excited to partner with Nintendo, makers of some of the most popular video games of all time, to provide yet another innovative entertainment offering to travelers,'' said Joan Vincenz, Delta's managing director of Product Marketing. ``This program reflects our ongoing commitment to provide a distinctive, enjoyable travel experience -- both on the ground and in the air -- especially during the busy holiday travel season.''

This airport technology addition is one of many changes Delta is making to improve the travel experience for customers. In September, Delta introduced the first of its new two-class, domestic transcontinental aircraft featuring all-leather seating in both first-class and coach. On these refurbished aircraft, every customer has a front row seat to great entertainment with Delta's state-of-the-art, digital in-flight entertainment -- boasting movies, live television, music and games -- available on demand at every seat. The airline's new standard in domestic transcontinental flying will be available to all passengers traveling on select Delta flights over four hours (or more than 1,750 miles), including those from Atlanta's Hartsfield-Jackson International Airport and New York's John F. Kennedy International Airport to cities including Las Vegas, Los Angeles, Salt Lake City, San Francisco, Seattle and others, beginning this month.

Earlier this year, Delta also began updating its international BusinessElite class with a similar, industry-leading entertainment system on its current fleet of 75 aircraft flying international routes. And beginning in 2008, Delta will be the first U.S. airline to offer its international business class customers a true lie-flat seat in its BusinessElite(r) cabin on ultra long-haul flights to Africa, Asia, and the Middle East.

Nintendo DS Ripoff

This is great. Check out the Nintendo DS ripoff from China it's called The Neo Double Games. Here's some of the great review from the site:

It isn't until you heft it that the differences become apparent. The Neo Double Games Lite feels very cheap and light, like there's nothing in it. But when you open it up, it almost falls out of your hands. It's incredibly clunky and awkward to hold. The hinges aren't very tight, so the heavy top screen keeps flopping around. The D-pad is more akin to the Playstation D-pad, and the X, Y, A, and B buttons have been replaced by two big arrows: A and B.

Nintendo hits the 2 million mark

Nintendo is touting its Wi-Fi Connection figures once again, as the online gaming service has just passed the two million unique players mark.

ImageNintendo of America senior VP of marketing George Harrison said confidently, "Our handheld leadership will continue unabated with today's launch of Star Fox Command and the anticipation of our upcoming Wi-Fi titles."

The shooter Star Fox Command earned an 8/10 from IGN and a 7.5/10 from GameSpot, and will offer online dogfighting.
Nintendo also boasted of the 70 million individual game sessions logged during the service's nine months of operation. The company expects that figure to rise as more titles utilize Wi-Fi Connection capabilities.

Make some music with your DS

Time to make some MIDI music with your Nintendo DS. Trish wrote in to the MAKE Blog to say " I have been hard at work the past couple of weeks creating a MIDI sequencer that uses my MIDI library and hardware hack for the Nintendo DS. The dSTAR Sequencer will be an x0x like sequencer with drawable bar graph sequence lines... The demo uses the DS's touch screen to control MIDI CC's 1 and 2 from the X and Y axis.. much like touch controllers like the Korg Kaoss Pad." What DS feels like on a Monday after a long weekend

Okay, so that is more what I look like on a Monday after a long weekend of partying it up. Anyway that's not what happened to this DS LIte. What happened was a monster set of canine teeth. The good part of this story, NIntendo offered to fix the damage for around $50.00 USD. So basically this guy will be getting a complete replacement brand new DS for around 50.00. Not too shaggy.....errr shabby....Bad Dog! Sit!

For the Adult gamer...

Well not that kind of adult gamer you pervert. This won't be a review of Japanese Sex sims for the DS. A reader sent this post in and I had to share it. It provides some great insite into why the DS is so addictive and fun:

1) You and your buddies don't usually need two copies of a game to play it multi player
This is something that never occurred to me prior to purchase. Most DS games support multi play off of one cartridge. If you have friends with their own DS systems, in many cases you'll only need one copy of a game to host while others join in and play without copies for themselves. For my wife and me, that's great news. We refuse to buy two copies of the same game just to play together. Single-cart-multi-play is a thing of beauty.

2) You can have two games in your DS at the same time
If you're like me, you keep your portables in your pockets. That doesn't leave any room for extra games so you're stuck playing whatever you had in your system when you left the house. With the DS you're not going to be limited to one game. You can have a DS game inserted as well as a GBA cartridge and can choose to boot either one at startup. That doubles my available gaming experiences without noticeably increasing carry size. Beyond that, I can swap between games without ever removing or replacing a cartridge. My current setup is New Super Mario Bros. for DS and Final Fantasy: Dawn of Souls for GBA -- a very winning pair.

3) Touch pad typing is easy
Once again, this is something that never crossed my mind prior to purchase; If you've ever entered a long web address or message of any sort on a cellphone or PSP, you know how frustrating the experience can be. With the DS touch screen, that frustration is fairly well eliminated. Touching letters with the tip of your stylus involves slightly more effort than a keyboard, but is a far cry better than the previous alternatives. I'm definitely looking forward to the upcoming DS Opera Browser release. Being able to look at dirty internet pictures check your email on the go with such little effort is going to be outstanding.

4) Pictochat is Awesome

Ok, so let me define awesome here. Maybe I'm not normal, but I find touch screen drawing to be abnormally fun in and of itself. Not only can I sit and draw anatomically correct stick men making rude gestures all afternoon long, but I can wirelessly share them with others! How cool is that? Of course, this is coming from a guy that loved those toy faces that came with magnetic pens and metal shavings for hair when he was a kid, so take this one as you will.

5) You don't have to be a pre-teen to enjoy portable gaming

There seems to be some sort of stigma attached to the name "Game Boy". People tend to think Nintendo branded portables are just for children. That misconception is just that -- a misconception. There's a large and growing library of games for the DS (not even counting the thousands of available GBA titles that can be played) and somewhere in there is a title for each of us to enjoy, regardless of age. Even now, Nintendo is marketing Brain Age to adults and seniors as a way to lubricate their rusty thought process. Nothing says grown-up fun like a game that makes you less stupid.
